Doom is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game will be yet another reboot of the Doom series since the release of Doom 3 in 2004.

The game's multiplayer is being developed in conjunction with Certain Affinity. Several multiplayer modes, such as traditional four-player deathmatch, Domination, Warpath, Freeze Tag, and Clan Arena. The game also includes "Doom SnapMap" which allows players to construct custom maps, create new game modes and share them with the online community, similar to Halo Forge.

But with the multiplayer game implementing load-outs and a two-weapon system in the same vein as Halo and Call of Duty, and the lesser focus on single-player, how will the 2016 release of Doom perform in the video game market?

The Initiative is a review and analysis series on newly-released PC games. The series will show my first impressions of the gameplay and features at face value, and analyze its longevity in the market and community.
