The injuries that robbed Tottenham of a star player
In 1994, Darren Anderton burst into a Tottenham Hotspur team under Ossie Ardilles and then Gerry Francis full of talent. Teddy Sheringham and Jurgen Klinsmann were firing on all cylinders up front and Anderton, along with Gheorghe Popescu were getting in on the act too whilst the young prospect of Sol Campbell was at the back.
Spurs were returning to their former glories. Their last trophy was the 1991 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest. Anderton was part of a team that were aiming to return to that.
But by the following season, the sacking of those two managers, a long list of player sales and long injury lay-offs for Darren Anderton, Spurs were back to square one. Anderton, who was tipped for the top, frequently missed action, including Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup, as well as long stretches prior to Euro 96 and the 1998 World Cup.
Would Tottenham have been successful if Anderton was injury free?
Would Anderton have moved to Liverpool or Man Utd if he was injury free?
Would England have achieved anything if Anderton was injury free?
