You know I like my VS CPU modes, and unfortunately the early SNK fighting games don't have them--but when SNK reworked '98 into The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match, they added a VS CPU mode! (Or as it is given in the menu, "CPU VS." : P)

I'd made myself a team select script to pick teams and colors for me -- http://smbhax.com/cgi-bin/teams/um.pl -- and I'd done a few sessions with it, but something seemed lacking; UM's VS CPU mode just wasn't as fun as regular '98 arcade mode.

Finally figured out the problem! That silly script I made was too complicated to use, having to enter six characters and six button combinations for specific colors and all. So I stopped using it and just use the game's (this is the PS2 version) built-in random select button, R1, to highlight a random character--and if I don't like that character, I can just hit/hold it again to pick someone else! I wish all random select functions worked like that. : )

So, I threw out the video I'd recorded of me slogging through VS CPU mode using my team select script, and just picked teams using R1 instead (and just picked stages by feel), and that's what you see here. Was loads of fun, must do more! ^_^

98 UM has the option to run the game with the Arrange soundtrack, but I think I'm gonna stick to the OST for the most part--as I do here--because the AST is a little inconsistent in volume level.
