The KO #91 - Capcom Fighting Evolution PS2 VS CPU mode battles!
In Capcom Fighting Evolution on PS2 you can set player 2 to "CPU" and then play VERSUS mode against them, which is what I'm doing in this video!
You still need to have a second controller plugged in to access the mode, and to pick their characters. : P During this video I was just using a random number generator to decide character picks for me, but that took a few seconds extra each time so afterward I made a script to do it all for me in one shot, and also pick which character color to use (characters only have two colors in this game as far as I can tell, the default selected with a Punch button, the alternate with a Kick button): http://smbhax.com/cgi-bin/teams/jam.pl
A viewer : ) convinced me to give CFE at least one more try and I guess I'm glad I did, because VS CPU in it is pretty fun! The characters and systems still don't seem particularly well balanced--not that I really know what I'm doing with them, especially that Hydron squid guy from Red Earth--but a lot of the characters are pretty cool--maybe not so much the new girl, Ingrid, but Kenji and Leo from Red Earth are neat--the match-ups are pretty unique, and the controls are really smooth; for instance, if you're playing a match between 3rd Strike characters, it feels like a really slick version of 3rd Strike, which isn't a bad thing I don't think.
One potential problem in terms of longevity though is that, bad as I am, I've already had to turn the difficulty setting up to 7/8 to have competitive matches--so if I get much better--not that that's super likely to happen real soon--there won't be much game left to be had. : P
You know, now that Capcom may have finally given up on Vs. series game teams ups with other companies after the latest fiasco with Marvel, I would kind of love for them to do another all-Capcom scramble like this--all 2D art of course, and just keep adding more and more characters! : D While the systems from the different games may clash a bit, I still like Evolution's style of gameplay better than most of the Vs. series stuff because it's more traditional one-on-one fighting.
I do wish the RANDOM stage select wouldn't pick the training stage (as in the first fight ~ 1:15 ) but I guess as far as training stages go it isn't *quite* the most boring or ugly.
