In late 2003 Vampire Lord was released. This card was a meta staple, it required 1 tribute or a destroyed by battle Pyramid Turtle to be brought back, only had 2000 atk, and had the effect to come back to the field next turn if it was destroyed by a card effect. This card was considered so good it was limited to 1 copy for a long time.
But then, in early 2004, Chaos Emperor Dragon was released. It only required 1 light and dark monsters in the GY to be specialed from the hand. It had blue eyes stats. It could wipe the entire field and both players hands for 1000 LP, and burn your opponent for 300 damage per card.
