THE LAST GUARDIAN Gameplay Walkthrough - Part 1 TRICO (PS4)
Much like its predecessors, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian is a third-person perspective game that combines action-adventure and puzzle elements. The player controls an unnamed boy who must work together with Trico, a giant, legendary creature, to solve puzzles and explore new areas. The boy is able to climb on structures and ledges, carry objects such as barrels, and operate mechanisms such as levers. The core gameplay revolves around the boy's interaction with Trico, who he can climb upon and ride. While the player initially has little command over Trico, they eventually learn additional commands that can instruct Trico to do certain actions, such as leaping up on ledges or heading in a certain direction.

Progression through the game often relies on the cooperation between the boy and Trico. Trico's large size and agility allows it to reach areas that the boy cannot reach on his own. Trico is also able to fight off guards who will attempt to capture the boy.Conversely, certain obstacles, such as gates, or glass eyes that frighten Trico, will prevent Trico from progressing, requiring the boy to traverse the environment and solve puzzle. Certain actions may also be required on the boy's part to get Trico's cooperation depending on its mood. For example, the boy will need to locate barrels to feed Trico when he's hungry, pet Trico to calm it down following a battle, and remove spears that get thrown at Trico by enemies.Although players are encouraged to train Trico to move in the right direction, new areas can be discovered by letting Trico wander around naturally. At various points in the game, the boy is able to wield a light-reflecting mirror that causes Trico's tail to shoot lightning, which can be used to break wooden objects. The player will be sent to the last checkpoint if the boy is captured by guards and dragged through a blue door, or if the boy falls from too great a height. Additional costumes based on previous games can be unlocked through multiple playthroughs.
