One of my favorite PS3 games was The Last of Us developed by Naughty Dog and released late in the consoles life in 2013. I liked the Uncharted games at the time and this looked like a similar quality 3rd person shooter just with a Zombie apocalypse theme.

The game relies less on puzzles (the treasure hunter theme of the Uncharted games kinda goes hand in hand with large puzzles) but still has some smaller puzzles sprinkled throughout and offers a quick and simple weapons upgrade and crafting system. Otherwise it looks and controls fairly similarly to those other Naughty Dog games and that's not a bad thing.

Because the PS4 was released in late 2013 this was one of those games that came out on PS3 but just a year later got a remastered version on the PS4. I'm not sure what was "remastered" because from what I can tell it looks like they mainly just upped the render resolution from HD 720p to Full-HD 1080p. What was an outstanding looking game on the PS3 is a mediocre looking one on the PS4. I mean don't get me wrong. It still looks good today but you can tell in many ways it was built for the previous generation console. Reading into it now it looks like it also runs at 60 FPS vs only 30 FPS on the PS3. That would also be an improvement that would be quite noticeable side by side. Since it had been years since I played the PS3 version and now to the PS4 version I didn't notice that myself.

I doubt it was ever meant for owners of the game to run out and re-buy it one year later but more for people who waiting for the PS4 and would want the better version now. But because it was so good on the PS3 relatively speaking I say play whatever version you can. If you don't have a PS4 it is still worth picking up this game for your PS3 collection and playing it today! But obviously if you have a PS4 you should get that version.
