0:00 - The Last Youtube Trend // 4:51 - You Don't Need Youtube
In 2018, the last surviving trend on youtube is to bemoan the decrepit state of the site and to whinge about lessening job security at the job with no boss. Thankfully, you don't need to be here; artists are maintaining successful careers on patreon without even bothering to have one central hub for their content--they just host it wherever they can, and then aggregate it for the patrons. Using this model, no one really NEEDS to post their content on youtube if it can't or shouldn't go there, nor do they necessarily need a strong identity as a mainstay figure with a regular "show" of some kind. People just need to know who you are.

Ben Saint: https://www.patreon.com/bensaint/posts

Both of these guys integrated patreon strongly into their personal brand and hammered hard on the advertising. "patreon.com/bensaint" was literally a verbal meme on the Pro Crastinators Podcast for most of a year, managed so well by Ben that everyone played along with it even though the other podcast hosts are directly in competition with him for fan dollars. That is the power of just being known.

You think you know me? I know I sure don't post all my art here. Get in on the narrative: https://www.patreon.com/digibro
