The Late Night Screen - "AER" - Mini Overview
As I state in the video, at least once or twice, I REALLY wanted to like this game. There is a lot of promise, the design from branding, to level appearance, to the character, all are very well created, simplistic and bright.
I picked it up on sale this past weekend, and as much as I hate to say this, I'm glad I didn't get it at full price. The controls are at best dodgy, and if at times not unresponsive, they are over sensitive. Now, I've not had a chance to take a look to see if there are settings that can help correct this or not.
The story seems somewhat anemic in narrative, and there is an odd psuedo native American, Central American native sort of feel to this.
When I was a kid, I really loved the anime Cities of Gold, and the screenshots I saw prior to purchasing immediately made me think of it. Upon playing, all those happy memories fell off the table, about as quickly as the main player character can slide off of a polygonal plane.
Another game where there isn't scores, or a life bar, and because it's not a game where you take damage per se, even from ridiculous heights, there is a lack of immediacy and challenge that seems to be missing.
