The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a special game for me, as someone who played it when they were very young, as one of their first video games, it truly impacted the way I see and play games. Fortunately, it is an amazing piece of software! In this video essay I dive into its first dungeon and discuss how the Deku Tree teaches the player how to play Ocarina of Time. I think the first levels of some of the marquee Nintendo 64 games (like Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64) can tell us a lot about the transition to 3D!

What do you think of the Deku Tree? Do you think it's too easy, too hand hold-y? Do you HATE Na'Vi with a burning passion? Let me know down in the comments below, I'll let you know just how right you might be! Have a great day :)
