The Phantom of the Opera Set for Disney+ Reimagining
9Kenny Ortega, who has worked on High School Musical and Descendants, is producing a Young Adult reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera for Disney+. This new adaptation, titled Phantom, will reimagine Gaston Leroux's classic novel with a modern twist geared towards younger audiences. The film is currently in production, with Giovanni M. Porta attached as screenwriter, and it is expected to include musical elements consistent with Ortega's previous projects.
Depending on how well the project is received, Disney plans to use it as a franchise starter. The platform appears to be leveraging the success of its other Young Adult content, such as Goosebumps and Percy Jackson, to broaden its offerings with new, creative takes on classic stories.
Though the series has no official release date yet, Disney+ is pushing forward with the adaptation, hoping to captivate both new viewers and long-time fans of The Phantom of the Opera.
