The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckaroo$ (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of THQ's 1993 NES game, The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckaroo$!
I'll be frank, here. No sir, I don't like it.
It does feature a lot of neat stuff from the show - it's got the lovely Maid Moron, Mr. Horse, Muddy Mudskipper, and more, and it's certainly better from a gameplay standpoint than most of the THQ-published NES games (though that's not really saying much). The graphics are well-defined and detailed for the NES, with easily recognizable sprites and lots of silly animation, and the music does its job well enough. The controls aren't particularly bad either - the main problem with the game is that it's BORING. It's dull, it's long, and it's boring. It's really unfortunate, since this had the potential (much like the SNES games) to be much better than it really is. For all of the promise in the presentation and non-broken mechanics, there's just not a whole lot to do, and what is there is recycled over and over again, ad nauseum.
Even as a kid I remember really wanting to like it and trying to get into it. I had such high hopes for it! Thinking that maybe with some distance and perspective my opinion would have changed on it, but it hasn't. At least this one, for me at least, was always a rental, and I never had the misfortune of my parent's buying it for me over some much better cart.
