145“Every once in a while, something is created that poses a question so absurd that few dare to even begin searching for the answer. It challenges you to solve its riddle, tempting you with the promise of unbelievable rewards. You wonder how you can unlock the incredible power on offer but as you delve into your investigations, you quickly realise that what lies before you is nothing but empty words. There is no way to reap this boon without a cost so dear and grave that you will have paid ten times over for it. You will suffer, you will struggle and for what? Failure, ruination, despair?
No, not you. You will not be pulled into this trap and so you discard this mystery and turn to better things, things you know. You cast aside the forbidden knowledge you had gazed upon and return to your life as best you can.
But not all turn away. Not I. I could not.
It whispered in my ear, burned itself into my eyes, danced across my mind, in my dreams and the waking hours. It would not leave, no matter how hard I pushed. It would not be silent no matter how loud I screamed. It festered and infected, grew rotten and fat until I could ignore it no longer and went to work. Feverishly I toiled, researched and experimented, all seemingly in vain. Every effort I took to succeed where others had failed was thwarted, stomped into the ground by those who’d been able to resist the sirens call I had succumbed to. Again and again I failed and lost until they thought me so torn asunder as to be gone.
But I did not fall. -They- would not let me go, for they needed me, me… and the others. It was then I had a terrible, exhilarating epiphany; there were others like me who struggled and failed alone, but we are never truly alone. We all seek the same and once I bring us all together, we will not fail. We cannot fail. We will unlock the secrets so stubbornly kept away from us and everything that has and ever will live or not. We will unleash that which should not be, that which never was. Too late will those who doubted see in legion we are strong.
The ritual WILL be mine, be ours and when it is, the world will weep tears that will be no more.”
