The Rocketeer (Nes) Playthrtough / Up, up and Away !! But only for a short moment :P
The Rocketeer (1991) by Realtime Associates and Ironwind Software is a game based on a now rather forgotten brand presenting, the story of Cliff Secord, who finds a prototype jet pack in his biplane. It was placed there by gangsters fleeing the crime scene. Since they didn't want to accidentally lose their precious prize, they decided to put it away in order to return for it later. Cliff finds it, and so his alter ego is created, which is the Rocketeer. Of course, this choice leads to a series of different events that Cliff will have to overcome in order to protect his loved ones and the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The film, as far as I know, has never been very popular, although this is a pity, because the concept of an avenger with a jet pack is a really interesting idea, and the design of the hero himself is extremely interesting. Personally, I always liked this film, and recently I even read somewhere that they are planning to make a sequel. So I wish them all the best because this is an ip that could definitely be refreshed. Coming back to the game, it is an ordinary mediocre pass-and-forget type of game. Graphically it looks miserable, unfortunately, compared to other titles from the same year, such as Double Dragon III or Batman Return of the Joker. Although it must be admitted that the locations do not look the worst and have quite a lot of detail. Sprites are, unfortunately, very small and, in addition, poorly animated, which, as a whole, unfortunately, but destroys the good impression left by the quality of the maps. We will come back to the opponents, as I have some objections here. Musically it is not too bad, although the style of the songs is very repetitive, and in the long run annoying, because it is based on what one would say ......... squeaky sound. I'm not an expert in sound, and I explain it as best I can. I recommend listening to the game's soundtrack by yourself. I am sure you will agree with me, although I still do not consider this soundtrack to be bad. As for the gameplay, it is a standard platformer, where the main feature of the protagonist was very poorly implemented. I am referring, of course, to the jetpack itself. Using the jet pack can be likened to a tiring chore, instead of an asset or something that gives you an advantage. Here, of course, we have a limited number of uses depending on how much gasoline we can get during the level. This is tiring insofar as it runs out very quickly, and the design of some levels as well as boss fights requires us to use it constantly. If we run out of gasoline, unfortunately, but we have to backtrack and respawn enemies so that they, by their grace, after their death, throw away the container with gasoline, which is not as easy as it might seem. At least at some points in the game. The point is that randomly in most cases one of three resources falls out, namely : A) Ammunition B)Life C)Fuel. As a result, sometimes we have to work hard to get what we need. In some levels, however, only fuel falls out, which causes problems with ammunition and life. We use ammunition for weapons, of which we have several types at our disposal from the very beginning, such as a pistol, a rifle, a better pistol that shoots a spray but with a shorter range, a grenade and something like a bazooka. To be completely honest, only the pistol and the rifle are useful. Everything else consumes too much resource and is rather only for occasional use or completely useless. The jetpack is the biggest problem with this game, because the creators decided to punish us apparently for using it. Controls are not precise enough to be able to move freely in space, usually filled with some strange satellites blocking our way or other opponents who also have these prototypical backpacks like our hero :D haha literally madness and no idea how to use this backpack in a rational way. Maybe it's a hackneyed idea, but I think a better solution would be to design strictly flying levels than to force the mechanics into a regular platformer. It's almost like in the movie... we have a rocket man who hardly uses the rocket. Maybe that's why this brand was never very popular. Because instead of action and flying on a jetpack it was based on dialogues and relationships between characters. It's a bit like in the Godzilla movies, where 90% are human adventures and only 10% are the monster and destruction. Despite all this criticism, I like this game, although the brand was not used in a satisfactory way, it is definitely playable.
