The Simplest Way To Make Minecraft More Difficult - Talon's Oasis - Ep 111
Commands below. So today we're going to experiment with mob attributes and adjusting them to increase the difficulty of fighting in Minecraft. We'll be looking at both /attribute and /random to adjust the zombie's attack damage. We'll experiment with getting the number just right to make it challenging but not impossible.
To Set Up (make a world backup beforehand): 11:59
When cheats are enabled run /gamemode creative and /give @p command_block
Then in the command block put /execute as @e[type=!player] run attribute @s minecraft:generic.attack_damage modifier add 8-8-8-8-8 talon_attack 3 multiply_base
You can modify the difficulty by adjusting the 3 in between talon_attack and multiply_base to be some other number like 1.3 or 2 (I don't recommend going much higher than 3 unless you're looking to get one-shot)
To go back to survival use /gamemode survival
Bonus: If you wanna try with keep inventory on (when you die you don't lose your stuff) you can use this command /gamerule keepInventory true
To Revert Attack Changes: 15:21
In the command block put /execute as @e[type=!player,nbt={Attributes:[{Name:"minecraft:generic.attack_damage"}]}] run attribute @s minecraft:generic.attack_damage modifier remove 8-8-8-8-8
And visit anywhere that had mobs that may have been loaded while the other command was active.
Extra Stuff:
- What's interesting is any sword the zombie carried calculated into the base attack damage shown by the attribute command, which is really cool. It also showed how powerful a netherite sword is, putting one zombie up to 33.0 attack damage (aka 16 and a half hearts).
- I had a more precise command for the simplified version, but I was having trouble with entity lag, so I removed a lot of the checks it did (like execute if) and it's performance improved even though it should be executing on more entities at a time now. So that was an interesting thing I learned, which I'll probably apply in the future when I need to optimize commands.
- I believe I actually messed up the armor calc. I was using multiply_base on 0 so no number would make a difference. I would've needed to use add and then some flat armor number to make the mobs more tanky. And I think the key to this being a fun change would probably be adding this to the attack damage change, but it would require more testing.
Command Block Survival is a gamemode where every command has a self-imposed price. It allows crafting of certain creative mode items (the recipe is part of the price) and adds an entirely new dimension of creativity!
