The Terminator is a Terminator game for the NES platform had been in development since 1989. Sunsoft's game, Journey to Silius, was originally conceived as a game based on the original film. The license expired during production, and the final game altered its graphics and created its own storyline. An NES game was eventually developed and released in December 1992. It is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Mindscape and Bethesda Softworks. The player plays as Kyle Reese, starting in the future, with a gun and grenades, fighting Terminators. The game consists of platforming and driving stages. The game was criticized for its poor graphics and audio, and its extreme difficulty due to a lack of continues should the player lose all their lives.

Nintendo versions:
Gameplay consists of platforming and driving stages, with Kyle Reese as the player character. It was sublicensed by Bethesda Softworks, developed by Radical Entertainment, and published by Mindscape. Gary Whitta of Computer and Video Games (CVG) was critical of the graphics, and considered the gameplay outdated with no originality. He rated it 61 out of 100, while MegaFun rated it 55 out of 100.

Another side-scrolling action game, also titled The Terminator, was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).It was developed and published by Mindscape in April 1993. The SNES version also puts the player in control of Kyle Reese. It features levels based on the film, including the future war in 2029, and the police station and nightclub in Los Angeles 1984. It also includes several driving levels. Gray Matter developed the game's platforming sections.

CVG rated the SNES version 70 out of 100. The magazine criticized the graphics, stating that they resembled an 8-bit game rather than the 16-bit capability of the SNES. CVG also criticized the difficulty, stating that checkpoints are placed too far apart. N-Force found the gameplay boring and exceedingly difficult, rating the game 55 out of 100. Nintendo Power considered the game an improvement over Mindscape's NES version. The magazine praised the graphics and music, while MegaFun found the graphics dreary and the sound monotonous, rating the game 58 out of 100. Reviewers for GameFan were critical of the game but praised its driving levels.

Сюжет:
Игра практически полностью повторяет сюжет самого фильма. Главным героем является солдат Кайл Риз. 2029 год. Идёт война людей и машин. Солдату Кайлу Ризу дали задание: отправиться в Лос-Анджелес в 1984 год вслед за терминатором модели T-800 и спасти от него Сару Коннор (мать Джона Коннора).

Игровой процесс:
В игре всего шесть уровней. Практически на каждом из них (не считая третьего и пятого) встречаются враги в виде Терминаторов (как с кожным покровом, так и без). У Кайла при себе есть оружие (что-то вроде бластера), с помощью которого можно отстреливаться от Терминаторов. Ещё можно подбирать и использовать гранаты. Но оружие используется только на первом уровне, ведь после того как Риз переместится в 1984 год, у него вообще не будет оружия, а врагов он сможет убивать только голыми руками.

На третьем и пятом уровнях происходят погони от T-800 на машине.

Локация на последнем шестом уровне представляет из себя фабрику, на которой был уничтожен T-800 (в гидравлическом прессе). Сначала Риз должен найти ключ от прохода к прессу, а потом приманить Терминатора к нему. Главное, чтобы сам Риз не попал под пресс (иначе игрок проиграет). После того как Терминатора раздавит гидравлический пресс, игра будет считаться пройденной.

Оценки:
Игра получила в основном смешанные и негативные оценки.
