The Trouble with Infinite Dungeon Generation - Talon's Oasis - Ep 90
It's prototyping day! We're attempting to make the simplest infinite dungeon generator possible! I've been wanting to try something like this out for a while, and today is the opportunity to do it. The command /place allows us to trigger jigsaw blocks remotely, so if we can figure out a way to automate this we may be able to do some infinite dungeon generation.
Extra Stuff:
- Originally I was intending to add an attic room and a basement room, but I had to cut them for time. And based on how things ended up, I'm glad I did because the complexity those two rooms would have added would have made troubleshooting much more difficult that it already was.
- When I was testing the direction the /place command would set things I discovered that jigsaw block seeds are chunk-specific, meaning if a bunch of armor stands summon a jigsaw in the same chunk you get a bunch of dungeons that look identical. It's actually quite a useful thing to know about jigsaw blocks. 😀
- I still don't know why there were so many turtles. My best guess is that because it took so many ticks to generate, the command block may have started multiple dungeons in the same location with the same seed, which would make the blocks look the same, but there would be way more entities, and it would explain all the items on the ground that dropped from the chest as well. 🤔
Command Block Survival is a gamemode where every command has a self-imposed price. It allows crafting of certain creative mode items (the recipe is part of the price) and adds an entirely new dimension of creativity!
