The True Meaning of Summer With SpongeBob & Cheapy the Cheapskate Video Essay
A video essay based around the SpongeBob SquarePants episode Krabby Land. Mr. Krabs attempts to lure children and their parents' money into the Krusty Krab with a flimsy amusement park and promises of entertainment in the form of "Krabby the Klown." After Krabs hands out coloring books/liability waivers, he orders SpongeBob to stall for him. SpongeBob doesn't know how to entertain the children. Until he finds out that he can amuse them by hurting himself. Eventually, Krabs reveals the con to SpongeBob and leaves the Krusty Krab with the children's' money. But the children attack him and tie him up while some muscled fish feed him lima beans.
How "Krabby Land" compares to greed and marketing in life. Mr. Krabs takes advantage of the kids' easily manipulated minds to profit, but unlike in life, Krabs gets his comeuppance. Krabs puts on an appearance of relatability and fun, only to swindle the children with his makeshift amusement park and cheap clown act.
SpongeBob tries to discover what the true meaning of summer really is. Mr. Krabs thinks that it is money, but he tricks SpongeBob into thinking that he really thinks it's about children being happy. He really is interested in the parents' money that the children have in form of allowances. To stall for Mr. Krabs once Krabs has the money, SpongeBob hurts himself to amuse the children. And Mr. Krabs has the gall to call SpongeBob selfish for being tired from the strenuous activities from "stalling."
Mr. Krabs lacks concern for SpongeBob and the children; he only care about making money off of them.
How cartoons changed in the 80s after the children's cartoon industry was deregulated. Cartoons became merchandising advertisements such as transformers and He-man.
