Final Space Character Profiles #1 Phil
30What you need to know about Phil, one of the creepiest and mysterious characters in Final Space.
Phil is a demonic looking creature that Gary Goodspeed met in an alternate dimension after drinking Clearwater on the planet Kanopius Prime. He kind of looks like a cross between Finn and the Lich King from Adventure Time. Just look at him, it will sink in. Phil’s body is all black. He has bright red eyes, and he is about twice the size of Gary. He wears a goat-like pelt over his body. There are horns sprouting from the top of his head, but whether the horns are part of the goat pelt or Phil’s actual body is uncertain. Attached to the right horn are a bell and a crystal, but we don’t hear any sound from either of them in Phil’s appearance. Attached to his left horn are a couple of beads. The pelt has two pockets on either side of his body. Phil’s teeth are a yellowish color and are crooked. Phil has an eerie voice to go along with his appearance that unnerves Gary. And a fun fact based on Phil’s appearance, in the Final Thoughts for season 2 episode 9, David Sacks says that Phil is one of his favorite character designs for the show.
Despite looking like a malevolent entity, Phil serves as a sort of guide for Gary in the alternate dimension. He knows exactly what Gary is looking to find and gives him a map that leads him straight to Quinn. But there is a catch, Phil wants Gary to reach into his right pocket for the map. Gary thinks that they are infant baby soul hands in there, but Phil corrects him and says that they are his “pocket peepers.” He says that the purpose of the peepers is to organize the goods in his pockets. Phil smiles at Gary eerily as Gary reaches into Phil’s pocket to find the map. After Gary retrieves the map, Phil dissolves into a puddle of what looks like Clearwater and disappears. After Phil leaves, the map guides Gary to Quinn.
