17:50 - My congratulations to Telltale Games and last but definitely not least, my thanks to you! Thank you for watching!
I don't have many favorites when it comes to video game characters. At least not in these days now that I'm older. Sure, I definitely had my childhood favorites but now, it takes a little bit more than just being bad-ass to make my list. (Oh don't get me wrong though, you still gotta be a BAMF in some aspects at least, lol.)
Lee became one of my all-time favorite characters simply because of how easily I could relate to him. This is something I wish we all could see more from developers nowadays; immersive games & stories. As much as I love the characters from my childhood: the blue-eyed blonde dude who swings around a huge sword and the bearded-mullet man who wears a bandana and can carry Stinger missiles in his pockets, I can only relate to a certain extent. The Walking Dead is probably one of the first games I've played that is actually grounded very closely to reality which is also another reason the final scene between Lee & Clementine hit everyone so hard; because we can envision ourselves in a similar situation with ease.
By no means, I'm not saying that a game has to be grounded close to reality in order for it to be immersive nor am I saying that there aren't many immersive games out there right now. When I say immersive I'm really only referring to the characters. How believable are the characters? How relatable are they? If the conditions were right, could you really see that character being a real person?
These are things that are NOT achieved easily and they require A LOT of work from pretty much EVERYONE part of the production. From voice-acting to directing to the writing - it's all important. We don't see many games with this amount of production value/effort injected (not that all games need an immense amount) and I'd love to see more.
For now, I'll cling onto the games that are doing so.
Can't wait for Season 2! (You do know that.... I'll be playing through it as soon as it's released... right? ;).)
In case anyone was wondering:
