From 1993 to 2002, The X Files reigned supreme on network television. One of the first shows (Twin Peaks aside) to mix a deep spiraling mythology into a standard procedural that caught on with genre fans and mainstream audiences alike. I can't stress how important this was before the golden age of dramatic television.

Yet, besides the original nine-season run (before its revival in 2016), creator and showrunner Chris Carter wrote two theatrical movies, The X Files: Fight The Future, which fans and critics alike praised, and The X Files I Want To Believe, which he directed, and what many consider too little too late. Though not nearly as good as the show's peak or the first movie, The X Files: I Want to Believe brings back the charm and chemistry that won over its core audience and delivers a small-scale thriller that should get more praise than it does.
