Thea 2 The Shattering - Mods are here!
15Hey everyone, Thyworm here with a small video on Thea 2: The Shattering. This game caught my attention, because it is just a very fun game to play. Check out my first impressions video. More so, however, I wanted to talk a little bit about the upcoming mod scene for Thea 2.
I’ve been covering mods since the start of the channel, in 2014. You can find hundreds of videos over here discussing mods, modding, tutorials on how to mod, all that good stuff. Mainly for Skyrim, because I love that game to death, but also for niche titles like Cities: Skylines or Warhammer Vermintide 2.
Mods can really elevate a game to new heights. Or in Bethesda’s case, fix all the bugs the devs couldn’t. And that’s why I’m really excited to at least create a small video on this new development for Thea 2. Since build 0519, what’s in a name, Steam Workshop support has been added. And that means, mods.
Now, I’ve played around 8 hours of Thea 2, so I’m by no means an expert on the game. I’ll gain some more expertise over time. However, I am sort of an expert when it comes to mods. I’ve spent thousands of hours playing mods, creating videos about it and discussing their overall value. So I do feel qualified to say something about these things okay? 😊
Let’s have a quick look at some of the very first mods out there, to get a bit of an idea on what we’re already dealing with.
A look at the Steam Store reveals that some people have started modding already, since the patch came out last week. For example, Lighter Jewelry, by Lorska, makes your jewelry lighter. Yes, I know. Revolutionary. But, ladies and gents, for some reason, a vanilla ring weighs 44 or sometimes even 60 pounds. That’s quite a bit, for some jewelry. And after the mod, it weighs 2.
Lorska also created a mod to make buildings somewhat more effective. BuildingOverhaul changes the village in such a way that it’s now worth your time and money to invest in buildings. Because after installing the mods, your structures give more resources or overall better bonuses.
XenoReaver added new racial skills. This is yet another nice little mod with some creativity involved from the mod author as well, because coming up with new racials requires some clever thinking. All new racial skills seem to make sense however, and best of all, this mod isn’t finished yet. There’ll be more races coming up soon.
There are already mods out there that go more towards making the game easier to play. For example, faster character levelling by Inot, or cheaper card traits by Weppenaar. Another cute mod is Better Equipped House Demon, by MajinNight. In the vanilla game, your house demon can only wear an off-hand, so I put a small shield on the demon. After subscribing to this mod on the Steam Workshop, you can outfit your house demon with all sort of gear. Pretty cool and to me it makes sense. I don’t know why a house demon wouldn’t be able to equip more stuff, but that could be just me.
Finally, people started to work on localizations. That’s pretty amazing. I had a question on my last video on Thea 2, asking if this game was available in German. Officially, it isn’t, but with modding, it might. At least mod author RPA already made a Polish translation of the game. It’s therefore probably only a matter of time before someone completes the German one.
