♫THEME OF LOVE (Hang On) SNES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of Hiroshi Kawaguchi's "Theme of Love," the main theme from Sega's 1985 arcade game Hang On. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES console.
I know Super Hang On has a sizable following, but I personally prefer the original game because of its music. If only the game had received a conversion for the Genesis like the sequel did! As impressive as the Master System's 1985 port was, it really couldn't do the first super scaler game justice.
Sega has had some amazing composers, but for me, none of them (yes, including Mitsuyoshi) can quite match Kawaguchi's work. Afterburner, Out Run, Space Harrier, Sword of Vermilion: the list goes on and on, but it's safe to say that his music was the sound of Sega in the 80s.
I can't say that I understand the name of the song, but I do love the tune! I heard it so many times playing at the arcade in Shenmue. I think I remember it also being in Sonic Riders, but I'm not totally sure on that one.
The original composition holds up perfectly well on its own, so I avoided adding any fancy flourishes or new parts while doing this arrangement. I just wanted to hear an updated "game sound" version of the track, and since I couldn't find one I liked, I went ahead and made one.
(And just for fun, I snuck a sample from Mega Man X in there. Can you hear it?)
Thanks for listening!
