This Dark Souls Character became a legend in the end, without ever Winning
Wolf Knight Artorius. Artorius of the Abyss. Abysswalker Artorius.
Artorius is one of the most referenced characters in all three Dark Souls games and he still has so many unanswered questions.
I know a lot of people subscribe to the theory that the New Londo abyss incident happened after Oolacile but I've come to disagree with that. First, Gwyn is all but confirmed gone by the time Oolacile erupts by a number of things, most substantially Gough's Japanese dialogue patting you on the back for taking down Kalameet. The Four Kings were given a fragment of Gwyn's soul just before he entered the Kiln of the First Flame. Therefore, it is very likely New Londo had already existed by the time Oolacile falls.
Next, Darkwraiths are corrupted knights of New Londo and were said to have been "born" there. Artorius is known to have fought against them but dies in Oolacile. So, it follows that New Londo's corruption must have happened either first, or around the same time. Oolacile may have been corrupted without too much issue because they had time to create and record dark sorceries, they had discovered by playing with the abyss, but I maintain that at the very least, New Londo had to have been corrupted by the time Oolacile falls.
Finally, in both English and Japanese, Ingward's dialogue seems to imply he thinks Artorius is still alive. Artorius' death was no secret, only the exact circumstances behind it. A legendary hero's death would be big news and one would think that would make it to New Londo if there was still a dry population there. This leads me to believe New Londo was already sealed by the time Oolacile and Artorius fall.
