6It’s clear a lot of work went into the artwork for Loop8, and a lot of care went into selecting the voice cast, but the game mechanics suffer from the uncanny feeling of playing a mobile game on console.
The protagonist Nini would have benefitted from getting the Itsuki Aoi treatment.
He COULD have had a fully-fleshed out personality, but instead he’s relegated to being a hybrid silent protagonist.
Nothing in Loop8 screams "laziness" but rather there seems to be a misunderstanding of what makes a game fun.
Gacha mechanics don't make a game fun. There's a reason why Mega Man fans don't like XDive.
Removing the rewards away from battles do not make them more enjoyable. Paper Mario fans don't like Sticker Star and Color Splash for this reason.
Persona 3,4,5 are enjoyable in small part because the day/night cycle is triggered by taking an action. In Loop8, the timer is always running, which is rather stressful.
Loop8 also has way too many loading screens, often for things that—in any other game—do not require a loading screen.
I get the sneaking suspicion that the devs are using a heavily modified version of Ren'Py, and loading that in every time the game switches into Visual Novel mode.
