Nobody truly gave Austria Salzburg a chance in this final. They had never won the Austrian Bundesliga or the top flight league prior to its formation. Their opposition, however, fabled for their catenaccio style and double winning European Cups in the 1960s were the complete opposite of them. The Dutch duo of Dennis Bergkamp and Wim Jonk powered Inter to the continued Italian domination of the UEFA Cup.
