4"Time Soldiers" for the Sega Master System is an action-packed arcade that takes players on an adventurous journey through various time periods. Tasked with rescuing captured comrades and facing off against the formidable janitor ruler, Gylend, players step into the shoes of Yohan and Ben in an overhead perspective, battling enemies and ultimately confronting powerful bosses.
In each level, players navigate through brief segments set in various time periods, armed with bazookas containing infinite ammo and occasionally picking up secondary weapons like energy guns or rocket launchers with limited ammo. The game introduces a unique time travel concept, allowing players to choose whether to continue in the present era or jump to a different time period at certain points, adding an element of strategy.
Throughout the game, players encounter a diverse array of enemies, including cavemen, dinosaurs, swordsmen, ninjas and dragons. The attack patterns of enemies generally fall into three categories: dashing across the screen, slow pursuit and attack, or stationary turrets. Mid-boss fights present the greatest challenge, with large, fast-moving enemies unleashing rapid projectile attacks. Main boss battles, on the other hand, tend to be more predictable and manageable despite their imposing size.
