Commentary:
*Chara swaps with Gerson.*
As always, you still name Chara on the start screen. Gerson was an extremely powerful and influential monster who was both a powerful royal guard (when it existed...), good friend of King Gaster, and also author and historian. It came to a head when Gerson, persuaded by Chara, was asked to participate in one of Gaster's experiments that would end up going horrifically wrong, shattering Gaster across time and space and killing Gerson himself. Without a king and without Gerson, the Underground fell, with only Gaster's... vague associates Sans and Papyrus left to rule the realm. Papyrus has done the job of being the spiritual leader since then, while Sans has moved into the Frosty Forest and done all the busywork. But there might be an anti-human sentiment growing, given Chara was Gerson's motivation in the first place. But who knows what's happened to the SOULs...
*Gaster swaps with Asriel.*
The Gaster/Asriel lore is ported over relatively unchanged. Gaster was the old ruler, whose experiments led to him being trapped outside reality, at least until the incidental emergence of the Vessel allowed him to take control of it and return to the physical. Anyway, with the power of the SOULs, he can force himself back into the world in full. Meanwhile, Asriel is the "angel" who everyone slowly forgot.
