2Hello, dear gamers and welcome back to my channel where today, we'll be starting a walkthrough of the FPS trilogy that is not just one of my favorite PS2 series but gaming series in general; TimeSplitters. To start us off, we'll dive into the world of the series' first entry and one of the very first PS2 launch titles, TimeSplitters so sit back, relax and enjoy.
About Game: TimeSplitters is 2000 First-Person Shooter video game with arcade elements developed by Free Radical Design and published by Eidos Interactive as PlayStation 2 exclusive and launch title. It is the first game in TimeSplitters video game series and Free Radical's first developed game. Upon release, TimeSplitters was met with favorable reviews from the critics who praised the game's cartoony and stylized presentation and its fast-paced gameplay, comparing it favorably to other popular FPS games of the time such as Perfect Dark, Quake and Goldeneye 64. Ironically enough, majority of Free Radical's staff was made up of ex-employees of Rare, British game development studio that developed Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark, and who split off from the company in 1999. Despite its positive reception, TimeSplitters has never reached a stardom and recognition of other similar games from this era and even today remains mostly forgotten by the mainstream gaming audiences despite retaining a strong cult following. Sequel of this game, TimeSplitters 2, was released in 2002.
Story of the game takes place during the period of 100 years between 1935 and 2035 and follows nine different characters as they face TimeSplitters, an evil multi-dimensional alien race whose only goal is to destroy humanity, having decided to do so by travelling throughout the humanity's history, more precisely, 20th and 21st centuries, in order to manipulate humanity into destroying itself through various means.
In 1935, a British explorer and adventurer known as Captain Ash has ventured into an ancient Egyptian tomb in order to steal an Ankh before it can be used by a group of cultists and their TimeSplitter allies for their nefarious purposes...
