It's amazing that, while not exactly rare or uncommon, Tiny Tank (or officially "Tiny Tank: Up Your Arsenal") is such an overlooked Playstation classic, and it's really affordable too. It was a title I was searching for after playing a demo of it many years ago and I eventually found it about a month ago at a game shop I visit. Being developed by AndNow and Appaloosa Interactive and originally meant to be published by MGM Interactive (though it's stated that they dropped it and Sony Computer Entertainment picked the title back up), it was released with little fanfare, even though it was the little tank that could.

The game combines good audio/visuals with lots of action and some delightfully off-the-wall humor which pokes fun not only at itself but at various wannabe mascots and "Me Too" titles of the time, and you can tell the people in charge of the music and voice work really liked their job; some of the things in the game such as the music can be awesome and heavy or oddly upbeat and uncharacteristic, and the music is presented in a sort of AM/FM Radio style where the bad guys and various other people talk via commercials or ads after tracks are played, some of which is funny to the point where you'll find a safe spot just so you can stop and listen to them.

In the beginning of the 21st century and an army of steel, robots are on the rampage to destroy the human race who now cower in fear to their new robotic overlords lead by the powerful Mutank. Their only hope is a sentient bright yellow tank with a massive stock of firepower and a whole lot of attitude, and he's taking the fight to them, somewhat reluctantly.

In this 3rd-Person shooting game, you can pick up spare weapons and objects blown off of many enemies (dig mah Cowboy hat towards the end of the level) as well as solve basic puzzles and mission objectives and send teeny weeny scouts to find weapons, detect traps, etcetera. The action is matched by the hilarity of the whole game in general and you can get a taste of it just in the first ten minutes of the game. From the philosophical ramblings of the head honcho to the way enemies act and animate (some even dance or do various other funny things to get your attention) right down to the hero itself who is no wuss, this game simply shouldn't have failed the way it did. This video goes from the intro to the end of the first stage. Enjoy.
