In another ET NOW newsbreak confirmed, hotels, restaurants or eateries can no longer charge 'Service Charge' from customers. As per the latest CCPA guidelines, if any hotel/restaurants levies a service charge, it shall amount to Unfair Trade Practice and any amount over and above the Food and Taxes cannot be charged from the customers. Should a consumer be made to pay a service charge, he/she can ask for the amount to be removed from the bill or can even lodge a complaint against the eatery.
