Interestingly an early version of the Doom 64 intro sequence exists on the found Doom 64 Alpha, where it is simply called "TITLE". It is in map slot 30, however you can't access it as the warp stops at map 29. So I made a game shark code (8005C237 001E) that let me warp to it upon a level restart. I used a code injector (above), to play this intro on hardware. The intro Cyberdemon gibs one of the Marine Bots, but since that animation doesn't exist it crashes the game, so I locked the monsters to prevent that from happening. You can hear the music is finished already. The geometry and camera movements seem to be finished too but not many enemies are around yet. It ends up crashing when it tries to access the "EVIL" pentagram picture which does not exist on the ROM.

To get a better idea of how it would play if the crashes could be avoided, with the monsters unlocked, I used a asset rip (above) to play it on the official Doom 64 Remaster. Keep in mind the alpha doesn't have blood sprites nor the evil picture. But you can see its a lot of Marine Bots battling it out with a Cyberdemon and Arachnotron. The intro fades out early, I am not sure if it was originally like this on the ROM or just how the engine might have changed later on. It is pretty interesting that this map existed locked away on the ROM. I wonder if there is any way to access it without hacking like I did?
