Tobal 2 Fighting Preview With FFVII Movie Selection Japanese Squaresoft PS1 Promo VHS 1080p 60fps
A "not for sale" VHS tape that previews the then upcoming release of Square and Dream Factory's PS1 fighting game, Tobal 2. The game wasn't released in the West unlike the game that came before it, but was well known around the world as "that fighting game with the chocobo in it." Well, kind of.
Anyway, this tape goes over the new characters, fighting system and dungeon mode, and also includes a selection of FMV cutscenes from Final Fantasy VII, Squaresoft's mega RPG hit released earlier in '97. Despite the VHS format, the visual quality of these cutscenes were pretty high quality for the time.
I'm not sure if this was something given to retailers to promote the game, given away at events, or sent to members of some kind of Squaresoft club...but whatever the case, it's an interesting relic from a time in gaming long gone.
This video was recorded on a Sharp VC-ES20B S-VHS deck using Sony S-Video cables upscaled to 1080p 60fps via the Framemeister, captured using an AverMedia Live Gamer Mini GC311.
