Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation took Lara into semi-open-world territory with mostly great results
The Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation remaster has a few lingering polish issues that need patching, but it’s still the best and simplest way to experience this oft forgotten and ambitious classic from 1999. It provides a fascinating look at Core Design trying to evolve the IP into a more open-world structure - albeit in a segmented form - and works as a standalone experience by introducing a young Lara and her former mentor-turned-villain.
EDIT: "The Last Revelation" not "Revelations" as I called it while narrating!
