[Top 100 Modern VGTunes] Announcement, Rules & Runner-Ups Medley
The main purpose of this video is to tell anyone who may be interested that I have safely returned from Japan and am nearly ready to move into my new apartment. Once I do, I will start uploading the follow up to my Top 50 Chiptunes, the Top 100 Modern VGTunes. I will upload a video every evening unless something prevents me from doing it.
I started out by trying to do a me too-version of Top 100 RPG Battle Themes, but found out that I am not nearly knowledgeable enough to come up with 100 good battle themes. As a result however, this list is very heavy on battle themes: There are 25 in total. I decided to do a "list within a list", so my Top 25 RPG Battle Themes will be uploaded as a part of the bigger picture.
The rules for the list are simple: Everything released after the 16-Bit-Era is eligible, though the rough guideline was that the system the game was released on is capable of playing CD-quality audio. Covered systems are the N64, PSX, Sega Saturn, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PSP and Nintendo DS. This video also has a GBA game.
The songs generally had to be instrumentals, though some one-liners or background vocals didn't disqualify anything. The more interesting rule is the limit of 3 tunes per game, and 5 tunes per series. My Top 50 Chiptunes was often criticised for being biased towards Lufia II and the Mega Man series, so this should make for more balanced results.
The higher number of tunes may imply that I actually prefer modern video games, but this is not really the case. I do, however, think that many more modern video games have good sountracks, probably because the average budgets for game developments have become much larger and hiring experienced composers more common as time passed.
I apologize for how this video turned out - I'm using my mother's computer right now and Windows Movie Maker does not work here. Everything else either leaves gargantuan water marks in the middle of your video, is harder to figure out than the mind of an attractive woman (I'm looking at you, Zweistein) or was too big to download. The screen at the end of this video should be tolerable, but it bothers me that the artwork doesn't fit with the music. Once I do the actual list, I will properly edit everything with Windows Movie Maker.
The songs in this medley are:
Skies of Arcadia - Battle Theme
Mana Khemia - Homeroom
Warriors Orochi - Osaka Castle
Mushihimesama Futari - Stage 5
Bladestorm - King of France
Sonic Advance 3 - Chaos Angel Act 1
Gitaroo Man - Bee Jam Blues
