Top 5 Language Independent Board Games
One of the unsung hurdles of board gaming is making sure people are capable of the basics - recognizing language, color, etc. BoardGameGeek has an indication of what level of literacy/text is involve in a particular game, and here are my favorites that are low level!
As a community, it's always going to be in our collective best interest to have board gaming open to as many people as possible, and that means not only having a range of good, playable games, but ensuring accessibility to those who have some kind of limitation, as well. The most commonly seen issue here is with color, as many games can't (or won't) accomodate any players who are color blind, making it very difficult to play. Today, I'll be talking about reading, though. A lot of games have HUGE amounts of text, whether blatant, subtle, or both, and can thus be difficult to interpret. Today, I wanted to go through my favorite games that have little to no requirement for knowing the language, or even numbers. That is, beyond someone explaining the rules. Enjoy!
As always, let me know what you all think! What do you think about gaming accessibility in general, and why? Should more games cater to issues like reading and seeing abilities? Let me know what you think in the comments!
