Board Game Discussion - Director Charles Mruz Interview
3Today is a very different type of board game discussion in that there's actually some in-video discussion! I had a chance to talk with Charles Mruz, the director of the board game documentary Gamemaster. I got great insight into the production and more of the industry!
Gamemaster is a documentary that was released widely this past July on essentially all the major platforms. I was lucky enough to watch a screener and later sit down with Charles to do a bit of Q&A. It follows the stories of 4 indie game designers and their unique journeys from sparking an idea, to playtesting, to attempting to publish and release. The movie focuses on a LOT of aspects of games and the industry as a whole, hitting on topics including diversity (or lack thereof), kickstarter vs. traditional publication, compromises needed to make a vision come to fruition, the potential to design as a career, visiting production facilities, and much more. In addition to the main designers, we see interviews with Elan Lee, Riener Knizia, Eric M. Lang, Matt Leacock, Susan McKinley Ross, Donald X. Vaccarino, and many more.
