5 Pokemon Types That Make NO SENSE!
Hey guys, HDvee here! In today’s video i’m going to be going over five pokemon whose typings just dont make any sense to me. Obviously pokemon are magical, made up creatures and logic doesnt always need to interfere with that, but sometimes I feel that gamefreak went a little overboard with some of their creations. Dont get me wrong, most pokemon and their typings make complete sense, but I feel that a couple of pokemon slipped through the spotlight, and five of those pokemon will be featured in todays video. With all of that being said, this is my top 5 pokemon typings that make no sense, lets get started!
Starting things off we have Psyduck. Both pokemon in psyducks evolution line are water types, but why arent they both a duel typing of water and psychic? I say both because golduck should of course also be a water and psychic type, but for this video, i’ll just be concentrating on psyduck. Firstly, the psy in psyducks name literally refers to the word psychic, and psyduck can also learn a bunch of psychic type attacks such as confusion, psybeam, zen headbutt, psyshock, this list just goes on! Psyduck also has a bunch of pokedex entries that refer to Psyduck having psychic powers, such as this one from pokemon leafgreen that says While lulling its enemies with its vacant look, this wily Pokémon will use psychokinetic powers. Now I dont know if its just me, but all of these reasons pretty much show that the psyduck evolution line should be a dual typing of water and psychic instead of just water.
Coming in at number 4 we have luxray. Now luxray is a pure electric type, but, please tell me why it isn’t a dual typing of electric and dark? Ive gone over this in a couple of my previous videos, but luxrays design screams dark type. Luxray also gets access to a handful of dark type moves such as crunch and snarl, so giving it a dual dark type would give it a handy stab bonus on crunch! I dont feel that luxrays two previous evolutions need to be part dark type, its just luxray that needs it!
At the halfway point we have granbull. Granbull is a pure fairy type, and personally, im not too sure why. The way I see it, fairy type pokemon are usually seen to be fluffy, cuddly creatures, yannoe, the things you would like to see in your childrens dreams. Granbull on the other hand, well, doesn't look anything like that. Granbull looks like a fierce bull dog that would probably make an appearance in your children's nightmares, just look at that angry face. And yeah I know that mawile doesnt look friendly either, but that pokemon is part steel type so you can see why it looks like that, a pure fairy type however, probably shouldnt look like granbull.
Coming in at number 2 we have Jirachi. Jirachi is a legendary pokemon with the dual typing of psychic and steel, but to me, im not too sure where the steel comes from, it certainly doesnt look like a steel type. Now before you say anything, I know that Jirachi is the wish pokemon, and shooting stars are typically made of metal, but I dont feel like thats enough to give it this typing. I also get that the steel typing really helps Jirachi out competitively, but for this video, i’m more looking at the design, especially as Jirachi has a third eye, and that definitely doesn't scream steel type.
Taking the number one spot in todays video is the legendary pokemon, Lugia. Lugia is a legendary pokemon with the dual typing of psychic and flying, but why, seriously why, isn’t this part water flying instead? The amount of evidence behind it is mind boggling. Firstly, pretty much all of lugias pokedex entries explain this pokemon living deep under the sea, as well as you encountering it at whirl islands in the games. It learns hydro pump through level up, and there are alot more lugia cards showcasing the pokemon as a water type than psychic. I understand that it would be quad weak to electric with this typing, but its counterpart ho-oh is quad weak to rock, and everyones got stealth rocks in their back pockets these days, I just dont think it makes sense that gamefreak went in this direction for lugia’s typing.
