Torchlight II (2012) (PC) (Runic Games)
0So Torchlight II is out now, and that's nice I guess. Had it actually been released around the time of Diablo III's controversial launch I probably would have jumped straight on the TL2 bandwagon and declared this the greatest mainstream roguelike since Diablo II. However, with a few D3 playthroughs under my belt my opinions about Blizzard's latest ARPG have changed dramatically and inexcusable DRM issues notwithstanding, it's really hard for an indie outfit like Runic to match the incredibly refined production values and surprisingly tactile controls of a game like Diablo III. Perhaps more importantly, though, I've simply had my fill of of straightforward hack'n slashers this year and would rather spend my precious free time immersed in other kinds of gameplay experiences. Still, anyone who's up for yet another isometric click fest right about now will surely find what they're looking for in Torchlight II. As for myself, well, I'm sure this game's mod scene will be awesome a year or two from now...
