Had a good look over the original chassis, but it was very clean and I couldn't see any issues with the naked eye. Before I could get into too much fiddling (technical term) a rare opportunity to purchase a replacement chassis came up. Being as these chassis are so hard to find, and as it was such an unbelievable price, I bagged it without hesitation :)

It was sold as working but I had no idea how true this was as I couldn't see it running. Worth a shot I thought, if nothing else it might have parts that could get my original up and running..

There are loads of variants of these chassis, the original one in the cab was a PE0493, while this one is from a Japanese initial D 3 cab, a slightly older PB9929.

Hardly any adjustment pots on this chassis so I was delighted to see it fire up first time! Looked ok, but a little out of focus on this tube. Few tweaks of the Focus, Screen and (new to me) third pot on the flyback and we're in business.

No more blinking, flashing pixels or shabby focus issues (tbh the video makes the picture look a little crappy still (another technical term), but that's my phone camera as it's really very nice now. Not too much I can do to tweak it further until I can get into the extended menu - you need to mod the remote board on these to get to the hidden additional options (mainly geometry stuff, but also more scope to increase brightness/contrast apparently).

Very happy for now that the picture is looking so good and stable for the first time since I got the cab over a year ago! Now I can get one with some cosmetic jobs and start NOSing this baby!

To use a term borrowed from my good buddy icuk7, it's better than 'service station quality' now! LOL!!
