Oh C3 Hecatia, what a wild journey you've been on since your arrival in 2022.

I remember when she were announced on JP and the Dev Letter came only days later and Global revealed her kit before you were even released in JP. This was also back when the Epic rarity was fairly controversial (not as much as L0g imo but I digress) and with this banner, not only could you not spark for C3 Hecatia, but you couldn't spark for any Story Card back then. Even today, when she reruns on JP, she isn't paired with any special Story Cards, nothing. And on top of that, debuffers in the game didn't fare too well in terms of gameplay as well due to lack of buffs and such (I can't remember everything from 2022 sadly). So to say that C3 Hecatia was dealt a horrible hand around her release was an understatement.

However, things slowly started to tilt in her favour, as more clear content started coming in, mainly VS Divergent Spirits where final gauges didn't have Barriers to break, adding an extra incentive to use debuffing effects as they don't disappear after breaking. While you could argue that L80 Sakuya outshines her (I do but I'm biased!), C3 Hecatia has aged better than some of us thought. Also, remember when Epic units were hated? Well since then, it became possible to spark them for 400 Exchange Points, which made them more favourable. I'd argue C3 Yukari being as insanely good as she was for the time was special in the sense that she can withstand these issues with the Epic Rarity...and to be followed by C3 Hecatia with all these high expectations from both the Epic Rarity and following in C3 Yukari's footsteps...yeah, the disappointment was real. However...


...Let's focus on the present! I'd say C3 Hecatia is one of the better debuffers in the game (L80 Sakuya and B3 Eiki are tough competition) and I would put her above the other Epic debuffer, C3 Flandre. Going into the August 2024 buffs, as we didn't know what to expect for these buffs. We then found out after the maintenance end about the following buffs:

Last Word Pre-ATK: All Enemies -2 Yang DEF (4T) ➡ All Enemies -1 Yang DEF II (2T)
Spell Card 1 Post-ATK: All Allies +1 Barrier ➡ All Allies +2 Barriers
Skill 2: Cooldown Reduction from 6 Turns ➡ 5 Turns.

So let's go over these three, firstly, Skill 2 is nice in how its cooldown is reduced from 6 Turns to 5, it's welcome even though Skill 3 is the one which is the bigger cooldown issue imo, but eh. Secondly, I'm happy to see SC1 Post-ATK become another free way of giving everyone 2 Barriers, but finally...well from what I have seen, it's a bit eh in terms of changing the Yang DEF debuff by -2 stages to -1 Yang DEF II. C3 Hecatia does at least have cards like Lunar Capital Stasis Plan...but I'm not sure about this one from what I have seen. While C3 Yukari's trading of Yang ATK for Yang ATK II worked due to abundance of Yang ATK buffing already, but it does end up becoming harder for C3 Hecatia to max out her Yang DEF debuffs, and even if there are no Yang DEF issues whatsoever, I do kind of wish something else was replaced, like CRIT Evasion debuffs, or maybe have Last Word's Line 1 include a Yang DEF debuff (-1 or -2 stages? idk), since I can see that being an overall positive, but meh. I guess if anyone else watching can articulate this issue better than me, then feel free to share in the description below!

So yeah C3 Hecatia, dealt a rough hand but also had moments of slowly ageing well, then having contentious tweaks to her kit like this. I'm still happy for the pros of this for C3 Hecatia, but it's still a shame she can't seem to truly thrive, to the point where an Ultra Festival like B3 Eiki can outshine/match her despite the lower rarity.

But with that said, hopefully you enjoy this showcase! I decided to use a helper this time, since I didn't have her on JP but I also thought it would be appropriate to pair her up with C3 Yukari too! Now where are the L80 Sakuya buffs? Give her Burn anomaly breaks (and maybe inflicts via Pre-ATK too) on SC1, as well as all lines having Killers, dewit NN, make Sakuya even more Perfect and Elegant!
