Tower Defense Roguelite RTS that somewhat feels like Helldivers - Idun Prologue: Frontline Survival
1You're a corporate off-world mining security agency protecting your executives' mining drills with carefully placed turrets, patrolling guards, and orbital air support against swarms and swarms of frenzied alien beings!
Idun: Frontline Survival reminds me of the gameplay of Pixel Junk Monsters and the aesthetic of Hardspace: Shipbreaker, with some dashes of the original Helldivers.
This game is frantic, exhilarating, and nail-biting. You get to choose a new defense option every several seconds, choosing between portable turrets, weapon upgrades, or new units to control.
Being able to place turrets and move them around to react to the flow of the enemy wave while also using your units to patrol around the environment to help out where they're needed, but also having direct control over the action with orbital air support makes you engaged every level you play the game. And there's always a chance of a near-miss and a last second success where you and your crew only escape by a hair's width!
The game also has a lot of personality thanks to its colorful cast of characters, with capable voice acting and serviceable scripting. The writing has a sense of humor, but it's just not my type of humor. Doesn't mean it's bad, the jokes just don't land for me.
