Train Simulator 2019: A.R.T. On The Island
Recently I bought two engines from Digital Traction. One of them is the Adams Radial Tank, an engine that Stephen of the GWR6029 YouTube Channel is downright obsessed with. You will have to wait and see what the other engine I bought is. I'll give you two hints:
1) she's green
2) her driving wheels are huge
The route in this video is The Isle of Wight, which was the very first piece of DLC I ever bought for Train Simulator, all the way back in December 2013.
Anyway, this video starts just after I had arrived at Smallbrook Junction, onboard a Class 483 that had just come up from Shanklin. We step off the train, and look around briefly before watching the now 80-year old (that's right - EIGHTY) trains leave for Ryde Pier Head. With the 483's gone, it's over to our Adams Radial Tank, which just so happens to be 488 - the only ART that has survived into preservation.
Then I drove the engine along the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, running the full 5.5 miles to Wootton, with a stop at Havenstreet on the way. In real life, 488 is preserved on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex. We cross paths with another ex-LSWR engine (Adams O2 class No. W24 'Calbourne) at Havenstreet. Also seen are four of the IOWSR's other steam engines.
My first impressions of the Adams Radial Tank are very good, to say the least. It's a near perfect recreation of the real thing - model wise, the sounds are nice (even though they're recorded from the LBSCR E4 class, not 488 herself) and it's another Southern engine for my collection. I did find two problems, however. 1) the engine seems to be too good of a steamer, and I had to put up with the safety valves lifting for most of the journey. 2) it seems that when you open the regulator, one of the wheels/levers/controls in the cab makes a horrid squeaking noise. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if this 2nd problem is really a problem.
Do I recommend the Adams Radial Tank for Train Simulator? Yes. Yes, I do.
