A tribute to one of the best gamemodes and concepts of Garry's mod, Infected Wars. Developed by ClavusElite (original Infected Wars) and later refined by NECROSSIN (Infected Wars Downfall).
It was mainly played in the Mr.Green community, then transfered to DarkerGaming (thanks to Shendow).

The gamemode rolled in a semi-futuristic setting where Humanity would fight against an intelligent kind of zombies, called "Undead Legion" (Team 2), which were capable of wielding weapons and tools. Humans would face the threat through the eyes of the "Special ops" (Team 1), an elite unit with convential weaponry and with a multi-role powersuit (inspired by Crysis power suit).

Pretty much it's Gmod ZS (Zombie Survival) but zombies are armed and humans are durable and a threat since early game.
As the player would unlock achievements and rack up kills and victories, they would unlock more classes and loadouts for both Undead Legion and Spec ops.

Undead classes: Zombie (medium/long range DPS) ; Bones (fast, close range DPS); Ghoul (disabler / support); Stalker (stealth melee) ; Behemoth (DPS, boss).

Specops classes: Assault (Good DPS - Good ammo reliability) ; Support (Best DPS - Bad ammo reliability) ; Supplies (Healer and ammo giver) ; Recon (Medium/long range DPS); Experimental (Powersuit energy management focused, hard to master).


It was the gamemode that first brought me to Garry's mod when I first started playing it back in 2008. In fact, there is some footage here that are one of my first matches in Steam and in Garry's mod.

HISTORY OF THE GAMEMODE - WHAT KILLED IT AND MY TAKE ON REVIVING IT

THE PROBLEM
Infected Wars peaked at its early stage. It was a gamemode that worked only if there were atleast 20+ people in the server. Less than 20 means it would be very unfair against the Undead Legion, sometimes boring.

As this was the main problem, even after great work done on refining and bringing it back twice, it got deserted and destroyed.

MY IDEA ON FIXING IT - 3 SIMPLE STEPS

1. Loadouts would be unlocked through a built-in ranking / leveling system for both Undead Legion and Specops.
2. Undead would capture and destroy objectives, granting them greater bonuses and round unlocks. (Example: Multiple behemoths, health regeneration, damage resistance, damage multiplier).
3. AI based gamemode (PvE - If under 20 players) and player-only based gamemode (PvP).

PvE Gamemode idea = Sector defence. Description: Undead AI would move to 3 capture zones (A;B;C). Each time an undead AI is in the zone, it would bleed tickets each second for the Human team (Players).

Total Specops victory tickets: 200
Needed undead kills to win: 700

Victory would grant 2x XP won from kills.
If a player dies, it would take him 2 minutes to respawn.

PvP Gamemode idea = Classic survival + objectives. The classic experience but with capturable objectives from the Undead team.
