Tube Panic - Arcade - Full 1CC playthrough / longplay & attract mode [HD 1080p 60fps]
Full one credit clear playthrough / longplay / Trueplay of the 1984 arcade game Tube Panic, word of warning if you suffer from epilepsy or any photosensitive disorders, do not watch this video. The game uses strobe and rapid flashing effects in the way the scaling works. An early Nichibutsu arcade game that includes incredible scaling and rotating effect for the time, sadly it's not that well known as an arcade game. In part due to the fact it appears not to have sold that well, possible due to the headaches inducing natural of the gameplay itself which may well have affected sales. Looking to be partly based on Tempest one of the reasons Tempest didn't rotate the screen, is during early tests it was noted as have the same problem, so that feature was removed. Attract mode with music can be seen at the end of the video, no cheats or save states were used in this video.
This is a proper old school arcade game and it doesn't allow the player to continue so you must finish the game on one credit. However the scoring and gameplay make it surprising deep. Your craft (Mercus) can only move left and right or shooter, but up and down on the stick increase or lower your speed, allowing you to boost or slow down when required. Each stage you start with a power count of 9999 and the faster you finish the stage and dock on the mother ship the higher your bonus score. So you can choose to be either a fearless high speed player and aim to finish the stage faster for the higher bonus score or slow down and shoot more of the enemies to avoid crashes. There's also a hidden “Right on” bonus for a pixel perfect centre landing on the mother ship, very tricky to master with no room for error, but you will see plenty of them in the video and on both mother ships. It's also vital you land otherwise your power won't be reset, if you run out of power you lose the ability to shoot. If you plan to speed run the game you can miss as many mother ships as you like to save time, but you will only have your dodgy ability to save you. The odd looking warp holes that at first glance you might think are some death trap, give you a temporary shield allowing you to crash through enemies. Certainly not that hard to finish as an arcade game but a very tricky one to fully master.
