[Synopsis]

In this video, I am running Turok on the PCEM V17 emulator emulating a Pentium 2 333 mhz + Voodoo 3 2000 on Windows 98 SE.

This video is a play through video and a test video for the PCEM emulator. I first played Turok back in 1997 on my Pentium 166 MMX computer with a 3dfx Voodoo 4 MB 3d accelerator. I also played it on my friend's N64, and both versions were good. The PC version was better, because you could use a mouse and keyboard combination. In my opinion, this was the best way to play 1st person shooters, and it is to this day.

Turok really showed off the capability of the 3dfx Voodoo 3d accelerator, and I have to say the graphics were very good for a game released in 1997. As for the difficulty, this was a difficult game, and it took me a few weeks to beat this game. In this game, you have to collect keys to get access to different levels, and it is very easy to forget to get all the keys in certain levels. You realize that you missed a key when you try to get access to different levels. When this happens, you have to go back to previous levels to locate the keys that you need to get to the next level. The keys that you get doesn't lead you to get to different levels in chronological order. For example, let's say I went to level 1 and level 2 then I will get access to level 5. You also had to solve puzzles in this game to get through different obstacles, and look in places which weren't obvious. I didn't use a hint guide to finish the game back in 1997, because I didn't have the disposable income to buy such things back then. I was a poor college student back then, so if something broke I had to repair it. If I played games like this, I just had to figure it out.

As for the game mechanics, I have to say it was very good, and this makes the game playable. The reason for this is because you need to be able to make precision jumps to pass certain levels. If you miss your mark and fall down, you can die, or you have to spend a lot of time to get back on track. The graphics engine was good, and the game was programmed well. Turok really didn't require patches to play, because it wasn't a buggy game. If you used a 3dfx Voodoo 3d accelerator with the Glide drivers, this game was perfect. However, you were able to play this game on D3D on other 3d accelerators, and those others did have some graphical issues. You did need patches for other 3d accelerators. Back in the 1990s, programs didn't automatically update like they do now, and this was because we didn't have broadband internet back then.

I will be playing out every level for this game and posting it here, so stay tuned.
