Tutorial: How to adjust FOV in the Source Engine (without options menu) [Includes gameplay example]
UPDATE: There is apparently a hard-coded limit of 90 implemented into the engine. While it does auto-adjust the FOV for aspect ratios nicely, I'm still disappointed that a PC-centred company would make such a decision. Everything else works, however.
While the Source engine does automatically adjust the value you set in the options menu for the resolution you've chosen, perhaps you wish to use a FOV value unreachable from the options menu, don't trust the automatic adjustment to fit your preference, or wish to adjust the FOV in Counter-Strike: Source, which has no FOV adjustment option. This is an easy and simple way to make these adjustments, and do so in a way that the engine will implement every time you start the game.
I have tested this in Garry's Mod, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2 personally. All have worked for me.
