Ultima IV Experience Part 1: No Really, Read the Book of History.
Dozens of Pages of Unmatched Subtlety:
No Really, Read the Book of History.
The first in a series of videos documenting a slow, exploratory playthrough of Lord British's classic computer game, Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar on the Apple ][.
After a dramatic reading of the back of the game box, we start the adventures of Gwendolen, and follow her to another world, in a time to come. During a de-stressing walk through the park, Gwendolen encounters a magical portal which delivers a bundle of artifacts and books. Curious, she sits under a tree and takes some time to read one of the books to learn about a strange world with an even stranger history. Afterwards, she encounters a spontaneously materialized Renaissance Fair filled with joyful people who seem to recognize her. From here, she is drawn by synthesized folk music to a fortune teller, who indicates that she has been waiting for Gwendolen for a long time. After a soul-probing analysis, the fortune teller announces that Gwen's path has been chosen, and transports her to a desolate island with swamps and ruins.
