Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Missions (Day 3) B
Here is the next Missions video. It seems the consensus is that you want me to put up the entire roster for these guys, so I will. This next one will cover Super Skrull, Trish, Thor, and Amaterasu.
Super Skrull (sometimes Super-Skrull with a hyphen between the words) is a frequent foe of the Fantastic Four, alongside Doctor Doom. Whereas Doom is more of a mad scientist sort, Super Skrull is just an out-and-out fighter. He is a key member of the Skrulls, an alien people focused on expanding their empire. Earth seems to be somewhat abundant in powerful fighters, so this guy volunteered for a project that would allow him to copy powers. He succeeded in getting all of the Fantastic Four's powers, but they consistently stop him anyway. Marvel suggested him in place of the Fantastic Four so as to combine their powers into one character. Super Skrull is voiced by Charlie Adler, whom you may have heard as Cow, Chicken, and the Red Guy in Cow and Chicken, and as Buster Bunny in Tiny Toon Adventures.
I wasn't sure what to do with Tenderizer L for Mission 2, as the training dummy always blocks every hit after the first. So I decided to combine it with another attack, in this case the grab. Looks like it works. Elastic Slam only works at medium distances for Mission 3. Skrull Torch takes him upwards, but Tenderizer keeps the opponent on the ground--turns out you're supposed to let the Tenderizer play out fully, then use Skrull Torch and catch Wesker in the air.
The next character up is Trish. She is Dante's current sidekick in the Devil May Cry series. She was originally created by Mundus, overlord of the demon world, created in the likeness of Dante's mother and sent to try to bring Dante to Mundus. It failed, needless to say. Dante was horrified at her appearance but decided that she's all right with him when she decided to turn against Mundus. She was killed by her creator but...somehow came back to life and, grateful for Dante's actions for her, now works at Dante's demon-slaying business.
Attacks with "Trick" in its name are traps. Trish can place them around the field and will stop anyone cold if they land in the area. Of course, since the traiing dummy doesn't move, you have to place them right over them. Here's more transitioning betwen crouching and standing for Mission 4 and 5. It alternates between them for Mission 5, so I have a lot of trouble with that part. I felt fatigued on Mission 6, so I decided to move on.
Thor, of course, is a Norse god. He wields Mjollnir, a hammer that gives him the power of thunder and lightning. He lives in the heavenly realm of Asgard and is immortal but seems to be frequently sent down to Earth to fix problems, particularly that of Loki, the god of chaos. Other Marvel villains also seem to like going after him. They must like the status of being able to stand toe-to-toe with a god. I wonder why I don't see more mythological figures from other parts of the world in Marvel Comics.
The reason I kept doing Mighty Spark instead of Mighty Smash in Mission 3 is because Mighty Smash is that dreaded quarter-circle-down eighth-circle-up type of move. The game reads my attempts as a straight up quarter-circle-up, which is Mighty Spark. Same thing with Mighty Thunder in Mission 5, which I frequently do Mighty Tornado instead. Mighty Hurricane sues a half circle back, which I seem to have less trouble with in Mission 6 than in Mission 2 for some reason.
Amaterasu (ah-MA-teh-RAH-su) is the protagonist of Okami. I suppose the game designers matched her with Thor on the Marvel side as she, too, is a god, just of Japanese mythology. She was cursed with the body of a wolf and must reclaim her position as a deity by regaining the trust of people she meets. There's a lot of combat in Okami, and Amaterasu is not without an arsenal, themed on calligraphy. The Wii version allows you to draw patterns on the screen in order to clear obstructions and attack enemies, represented by the brush on Amaterasu's back.
To clear a bit up here, Amaterasu has three sets of attacks depending on what she's carrying. The Solar Flare is what you begin with and lets Amaterasu use a set of moves with fire. Naturally, it looks like some fire on her back. The Thunder Edge looks like a blue pointy thing, and you can deduce its element is lightning. The Devout Beads has a smaller moveset and is themed on ice. It looks like a bunch of swirly clouds orbiting around Amaterasu's neck.
Solar Flare L, in Mission 2, is a counter move, which I figured when Spider-Man was attacking every now and then. I was trying to time it to when he attacks, but I found out Amaterasu can hold the barrier in place. Figures. Mission 3 is about swapping weapons: Light changes it to Solar Flare, Medium changes it to Thunder Edge, and Heavy changes it to Devout Beads. For Mission 6, I kept doing Okami Shuffle, which is a straght-up quarter-circle-up, whereas Divine Instruments is...well, you get the point.
