Hello everybody. I know some people are coming in who live and breathe fighting games, so let me make this clear: I am not a fighting game player. I am more of a platforming, turn-based RPG, and racing game person. I may have previously played BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, but I didn't really pick up that much when I was playing, and I've since forgotten nearly all of it. In essence, I am a beginner to this sort of game.

So if you were looking for "pro" videos of people kicking butt, you're not going to find it here.

Capcom knows there would be a lot of people who would pick up this game who have never played a fighting game before, and they've taken a lot of measures to make sure not to just toally scare everyone off. It's still going to happen, especially since most people who got this already had the original game, but you can tell the Capcom guys at least intended to make tem feel welcome. I'll give some more thoughts when I play other modes, particularly actual battles.

I'm going to go as far as I can with each character on Mission Mode first to get an idea of how this game works overall, and also because when I do play online, I'm going to let the randomizer select every character and assist for me.

Let's begin with Wolverine, or James "Logan" Howlett. Contrary to popular belief, his powers are simply self-healing, not his famous claws. Those are actually surgically implanted adamantium; it would kill anyone else, but Logan's self-healing allows him to function with them in his hands painlessly. Originally, Wolverine was supposed to be this short, stout, unkempt, and smelly guy with an unpleasant personality to boot. For whatever reason, Wolverine became the most popular X-Men character to where he is now pretty much the face of Marvel.

As you can see here, I still don't exactly understand why some things I do register and some things don't. For Mission 5, I couldn't figure out how to attack before Morrigan fell. I ultimately (no pun intended) couldn't do Mission 7 no matter what I tried--Berserker Slash would either go right under Chris or he'd block it. Oh well. I'll go back to this later.

Ryu (pronounced REE-yoo in English) Hoshi is the main character in Street Fighter. He's a martial arts master from Japan. He's out to find the most challenging opponents he can. His first rival (and still his favorite sparring partner) is Ken Masters from the United States. He loves martial arts tournaments and will take part in any he can find. He seems to have a knack for participating in ones organized by evil people without him knowing, though he or one of his friends always exposes the villains for who they are. Ryu's signature moves are the Hadoken (ha-DOH-ken), the Shoryuken (SHO-ri-YOO-ken), and the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku (TAT-soo-MAH-ki sen-POO-kyahk).

For Mission 3, I had a tough time understanding when the Shoryuken had to be, as the Baku Hadoken caused Wolverine to fly into the air. Mission 5 is apparently a variant of the "Magic Combo" (Light, Medium, Heavy, Launcher, Jump, Medium, Medium, Heavy, Launcher). Ryu is the only character whose Mission 7 I've been able to finish.

Bruce Banner was a scientist who worked on researching gamma rays until he was struck by them. When he gets too much adrenaline in him, he becomes The Incredible Hulk. The angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes. Sometimes he has self-control and protects the innocent from evildoers. When he loses it, he'll destroy everything in his path. The Hulk is frequently opposed by military forces, but he just as often comes across guys his size.

The Anti-Air Gamma Charge in Mission 2 is a directional movement I've never been able to get down well: Quarter circle down (towards opponent to down), then an eighth circle back. It's normally assigned to moves similar to the Shoryuken. With Mission 5, again I can't understand why sometimes Spencer is away from the attack's range, though this time Spencer is too high. This time, I can't do Mission 6. So I move to Morrigan.

Morrigan Aensland is a succubus from Capcom's Darkstalkers series. A powerful sorceror from the Aensland family found a cosmic power as a small girl and, fearing her astronomical destructive power, split her strength in three: One third stays with her, he keeps a third, and the last third sealed in another dimension that would later form into Morrigan's "sister" Lilith. Originally an evil force, she was treated with genuine care by humans growing up and, while still rather dark, is one of the more moral characters in the Darkstalkers cast.

Mission 3's Shadow Blade is, indeed, a Shoryuken sort of move with a Shoryuken input. And, of course, the problem in Mission 5's "Magic Combo" this time is that Morrigan gains too much distance from Hulk. Should I be pressing forward? (I was testing the launcher at the beginning of Mission 6 to see if it's exactly the same crouching as it is standing.)
